Sunday Catch Up #7

Gosh well it's definitely been a long time since we've met in this kind of circumstances hm? The majority of these photos haven't even been taken this week due to my horrifically mediocore social life as of recent times (damn you university), but this does kinda show you what I've been up to lately. As I've recently posted about Brighton anyway, that was omitted as I thought it might be overkill to talk about it again, as much as I'd like to.

Clockwise from top left:
  1. Seeing Marine & The Diamonds at Camden Roundhouse with some really good pals a couple of weekends ago
  2. Some gorgeous lil cacti friends found at a gardening store in Chelsea
  3. galavanting aroudn the London Aquarium on a Late on Valentines day
  4. selfie-ing it up & loving the way my brows be looking in this photo
  5. as I was home for this weekend just gone, obligatory beach photo of Seaton as I made mum visit the beach with me (gotta make sure the sea is still there, right?)
  6. Lastly, some little pick ups from Revlon, including this super awesome brow pencil/gel combo that is actually a good shade for me, shock horror.

I'm really upset that I haven't been keeping up with these as they're super nice to look back on after a couple months have passed, so expect more! (fingers crossed)

Volunteering at Glastonbury 2015 with Oxfam

PHOTOS: SAM DUNNETT & MEGAN WILLIAMS

Eep this is such an exciting post for me as I'm looking back over the photos that my lovely pal Sam took with his fancy camera and they're all so lovely, even if we nearly lost him several times as he stopped to take them! This was my first ever Glastonbury, and as I'm poor and would never have the luck to get actual tickets, we (Me, Molly and Sam) decided to jump on the volunteering wagon, and as you can hopefully tell from the photos, we had an absolutely amazing time.

We arrived on the Tuesday, which meant we had a whole day before the site fully opened to explore it to ourselves, hence why so many of the photos show such brilliantly green grass and no sprawling masses of tents. We also got access to the crew bars which made me feel a bit of a VIP I'm not going to lie. We also had our own specific camping area, that was a bit of a way out, was really nice, with showers and nice(ish) toilets. Also charging ports and free tea and coffee. So good.

Look at how much sun we got on the first few days!!! Unfortunately this didn't last but that is besides the point, it was lovely anyway. Although we worked our three eight hour shifts, and therefore missed a lot of music (including Florence so sad) we did manage to see Kanye, which was obviously amazing. Other highlights for me included Everything Everything, Coasts, Years & Years, Jungle, Pharell and running around past midnight in the late night arenas such as Shangri-La and Block 9.

Jacket: Missguided
Vest: Bitching and Junkfood

It was overall such a fantastic experience and you just meet so many lovely people on shift with such a positive atmosphere everywhere in the Oxfam campsite too. Glastonbury itself is phenomenal, and far and away the best festival I think I've ever attended (soz Reading). I definitely want to go back, wether it be volunteering or not. So, who's up for #Glasto2k16??

5 Spring Songs To Get You in the Mood

Feeling Springy yet? No? Let me give you a little hand...

First up, some Temples whose sounds is so spot on summer that I thought we'd kick off a spring playlist with some, just so you're even more in the mood. It kicks straight in to that awesome melody and it reminds me of festivals and although it's not quite summer right yet, this can make spring feel like it is.

Next up is Pelican, one of my favourites from The Maccabee's newer album, great driving music, great chill out music, great music to listen to while you're just having a good time.

I'm seeing the Wombats next month after so many years of waiting for them to come of their sort of hiatus, and I'm not at all disappointed by the music they've been bringing out, this being my personal favourite. I'm looking forward to playing this loudly while driving when I go back home!

Learn to Fly by the Foos is an instant classic, and as I'm volunteering at Glasto this year I thought I'd pop this in for another little bit of summery vibes, and you can't go wrong with a song as upbeat as this to get you into the springtime vibe.

Frank Turner is the love of my life, it's no secret, and this song is one that makes me feel a lot happier than before I listened to it. Really cheerful, get up and go kinda stuff. Nothing beats a bit of Frank when you want to be passionate about something.

Haim are such a good band, and it's great to see some all girl bands being so successful (song with Calvin Harris? hell. yes.). I think this was the first song I heard by them, but the whole album gets me in a great mood for some spring cleaning or revision (hah)

Lianne La Havas supported Bombay Bicycle Club about 3 years ago when I saw them in Plymouth, and although I never really listened to her back then, I love her voice, and how unique everything she does sounds compared to a lot else there. Really chilled.

Echosmith are an awesome, up and coming band that made it big with this happy little song which reminds me of other stuff but I really can't remember what? I love the whole album that this is off too.

Fall Out Boy wrote a song about dancing like Uma Therman and you didn't expect me to include it in my list?? As if.

Superfood is awesome. This song is awesome.  Cool.

I feel like the words 'chill' were used far too much in this, and I apologise, but seriously, Spring is great for chilling out with your friends while getting hyped for dem exams and then summer woo!!
Hope you like.

5 Ways to Make a Bad Day Better

I sometimes find it hard to stay as positive as I'd like to be, and especially so since I've moved out of home and have to rely on myself even more. Without constantly having a parent around, I've had to find other ways to fill my time, and when you're not feeling that great it's quite hard to want to do anything other than lay in your bed.

  1. Get outside and just walk/run. Don't plan on doing anything just take a walk of about 30 minutes or so, and listen to some music while you're at it. Personally I enjoy running, because you just get into this mindset of running and nothing else can really trouble you while you're doing it! I also normally feel super productive after a run too as it really wakes you up for doing anything else!
  2. Choose a beautiful place, like a beach, a local park, somewhere with a view, and sit there for a while, maybe take some food and just look around. Coffee shops are also good places to do this, especially to people watch.
  3. Work on a hobby, or find something that you enjoy doing by yourself, e.g blogging, or shopping, or writing, photography, art, sport, the list is endless! If you feel like you don't have a hobby, start looking for something wether it be nerdy or sporty or arty there is always something out there for someone! I used to think I found nothing interesting, until I got into blogging and writing, and the fruitition of that was this blog and writing reviews for my friend's blog thnksfrthrvw which has helped me turn my passion to music into something even more.
  4. Send a friend a message to meet up, no matter how down you feel someone will be there to help you/spend time with you, even if it's just to take your mind of it, which is sometimes all people need!
  5. lastly, have a pamper yourself day! Stay in, watch some netflix, make yourself a really extravagant meal and go all out, have a desert too if you can! Honestly, paint your nails, give yourself a full facial, and a lovely long bubble bath with some lush products, and that's guaranteed to lift your mood!

I hope this ideas help you, they aren't life changing but after a rubbish day at school/uni/work these have helped me massively! Keeping happy is all mental, but that doesn't mean some physical things can help!

Friday Catch Up #2

Another couple of weeks have passed and now we're well and truly into November, I'd thought I'd post a quick one about what I've been up to recently.

Clockwise from top:
Picture of Flyte from when I saw them at Oslo on Tuesday
Setlist from the same gig
View from the top of Primrose Hill on November 5th, saw fireworks from all over London!
Luke and I from when we went out last Thursday to celebrate halloween with our dodgeball team!

Hope you've had a good past couple of weeks!

Volunteering at Latitude Festival 2014

Hello again!
I know it's been a while since I last updated but I have a valid excuse, for the last week I've been away at Latitude Festival in Suffolk, volunteering with Hotbox Events as a steward! This essentially meant I got free entry to the festival (there's a £230 deposit that is returned in October) and in exchange I had to work 3 lots of 8 hour shifts throughout the festival. There are other shifts available, some lucky bums only had two shifts of 6 and a half hours, but I worked Friday 1am-9am, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 5pm-1am.
All in all, it was a pretty good experience, you actually end up working a 9 hour shift as you have to be there an hour early, and sometimes if the people taking over from you are late you can be there even longer. This is especially prominent as the company I was with was horrendously unorganised for the first two days and we had no idea what we were meant to be doing. Personally, as a first time goer to Latitude, I probably wouldn't have gone this year if I had to have bought the ticket myself, but I would happily do so next year, as the atmosphere is perfect and the site is absolutely beautiful. Due to my work shifts though, I felt that I missed out on a lot, and didn't really ever get in to the atmosphere... But I guess that's what I should have expected.

Overall, I'm not sure if I would volunteer again, especially if the line-up was good, HOWEVER, I did have an absolutely fantastic time, and I met some absolutely fantastic people, and saw some brilliant live acts (such as Bombay Bicycle Club, pictured above). If you are looking for a cheap way to get to festivals and you aren't too bothered about missing bands and being exhausted for the whole festival, look no further, as with just the one deposit you can also attend Reading/Leeds festival with the same company, which is very nifty and budget friendly.

The lovely people I met and camped with!
A quick round up of acts/bands I managed to see:
Billy Bragg, Kelis, Crystal Fighters, Lily Allen, First Aid Kit, Bombay Bicycle Club, Milton Jones,  George Ezra, Temples etc.
If you have any questions, I'll try and answer, but that's all for now!
